Dreaming
of travelling? Good for you. But are you dreaming, or are you making it happen?
Reading
travel blogs doesn't count. If you haven't made plans to travel, you are
wasting precious time.
Nothing
lasts forever -- not you, and not famous world monuments. If you want to see
the great pyramids of Egypt, get that passport ready and find your way there.
If you're looking at exotic Costa Rica vacation packages, don't just look --
book! If you want to see the Grand Canyon, fill up your gas tank and go!
Here's
a little story. When I was a kid back in the 80's, I did a state report on New
Hampshire. Being on the opposite side of the country, it may as well have been
a foreign land. I learned about their state bird and their state flower, both
quite beautiful, and I learned about their significance in American voting.
But
what intrigued me most about this state, aside from their staunchly pugnacious
state motto of "Live Free or Die," was their famous natural wonder,
the Old Man of the Mountain. This was the Granite State's very own
naturally-formed profile of rock at the top of a mountain. It looked so much
like a face, and extended so far out from the mountainside that I figured you'd
have to see it in person to believe it wasn't man-made.
As
you may know, the Old Man of the Mountain is no longer there. As naturally as
it was formed, it collapsed. This great majestic face in the mountain was
reduced in a moment to a pile of rocks.
I
had always wanted to see that for myself. And when I was older, just out of
college, I landed a temporary job in New Hampshire in the summertime.
The
Old Man in the Mountain in New Hampshire collapsed RIGHT before I left home for
that job.
My
gig started in June. The Old Man collapsed in May.
Earthquakes
happen unexpectedly. The sea levels are rising. Glaciers are melting.
Hurricanes are getting stronger.
Time
never stops. Governments get overthrown. Man made objects crumble.
If
there's something or someplace you want to see, then go see it. Before it's
gone.
If
you're waiting to be able to afford to go instead of actively saving money,
your final destination is going to be sadnessville.
Get
started right now. Don't wait for the next paycheck. Sell some things on eBay
(or elsewhere online).
Surely
there's something in your house that you've held onto for sentimental reasons.
Just ask yourself if you want that physical object that takes up space more
than you want to travel to somewhere exotic and exciting.
Whatever
you do, don't make the mistake of waiting too long.
